XLNC AI

A guide for teachers

AI answer-sheet checking, explained.

What it is, what it can and cannot do, and why the teacher decides every mark.

What AI answer-sheet checking is

A teacher photographs or scans students’ handwritten answer sheets. The AI reads the handwriting, drafts marks against the questions, and notes the concept each student seems to have missed. The teacher then reviews the draft and decides.

It is a first pass, not a verdict. The point is to save the slow part of marking, reading and sorting, while the judgement stays with the teacher.

How it works in XLNC AI

  • Upload: photos or PDFs of the answer sheets.
  • Review: Spark drafts the marks, flags the concept each student missed with a next step, and notes any unanswered questions.
  • Decide: accept, edit or dismiss every flag. They are drafts, not verdicts.
  • Approve: only then do students see the feedback and parents hear about it.

What it can and cannot do

It can read handwriting, draft marks, and turn mistakes into practice topics for each student. Approved topics join that student’s practice list straight away.

It can also get things wrong, like any reader of handwriting. We are still testing how it copes with difficult writing. That is why nothing it drafts reaches a student or a parent until the teacher has checked it.

What it does not do

  • It does not rank children.
  • It does not label ability, attention or learning style.
  • It does not use student work to train AI.
  • It does not replace the teacher. Spark drafts; the teacher decides.

Where it stands

XLNC AI is in development and has been tested with made-up data only. We plan to begin with one grade and one subject at one school, and widen from there.

Questions

Asked often, answered plainly.

Is AI answer-sheet checking accurate?

It drafts, and drafts can be wrong, especially with difficult handwriting. Every mark and flag is the teacher’s to accept, edit or dismiss before anyone sees it.

Does it work with handwritten answers?

Yes, it reads photos or PDFs of handwritten sheets. We are still testing how it copes with very messy writing.

Will it replace teachers?

No. It saves reading and sorting time. The judgement stays with the teacher.

What do students and parents see?

Students see the practice topics the teacher approved. Parents get one short note, only after approval.
